Motor starter in hybrid switching technology

The Simatic ET 200SP motor starters from Siemens are available with five different wide setting ranges up to a power of 5.5 kW. With a width of only 30 mm, they can be used to start and protect single-phase and three-phase motors. Due to their design using hybrid switching technology (semiconductor switch and electrical contact), the motor starters are not only significantly more compact, they also have a longer service life – with up to 30 million switching cycles, which is a major advantage over conventional solutions. The motor starters detects the type of disturbances such as a blocked motor as well as unbalance or phase failure. The diagnostic capabilities of the motor starter range up to current measurement. The motor starters combines the functions of protection devices and conventional reversing contactor combination in one device. As a result, much fewer devices are required. This saves space in the control cabinet and reduces time-consuming wiring to a minimum.
